ENVIRONMENT
We aim for excellence in carbon neutrality and impact reduction, and accompany clients towards an industrial economy powered by renewable, circular, and decarbonized sources.

We are committed to being promoters of the energy transition and circular economy, providing the market with innovative and integrated solutions.
We aim at preserving the environment from pollution, saving water, protecting biodiversity, promoting the responsible use of resources and circularity.

HIGHLIGHTS
Our ambition is not only to reduce our carbon footprint but also to provide the international industrial system with a portfolio of technologies capable of enabling the energy transition by supporting our customers in the development of increasingly sustainable and low-carbon-impact plant solutions.
At the same time, we are committed to preserve the environment from pollution, save water, protect biodiversity and improve recycling and circularity.
target carbon neutrality for emissions Scope 1 and 2 produced in offices and sites
target carbon neutrality for emissions Scope 3 of the supply chain
of plastics are recycled every year, by separating and recycling our waste
initiatives ongoing to protect biodiversity on site with biodiversity sensitivity
a dedicated Task Force to develop initiatives and technical solutions to improve water management
driving initiatives to enhance circularity and resource efficiency from the design phase
We have implemented several energy efficiency initiatives to promote decarbonization and better energy use. We own a technology portfolio with solutions for decarbonization such as green ammonia, green hydrogen, and biofuels. Our aim is not only reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also promoting long-term sustainability and resilience of energy infrastructure.
For Scope 1 and 2 emissions produced in offices and sites
For Scope 3 missions of the value chain
Developing solutions to improve clients’ decarbonization, avoiding emissions for 1,225 kt CO2 eq in 2025
OUR INITIATIVES

Photovoltaic systems
We combine traditional power generation with photovoltaic systems designed to provide at least 30% of the estimated required peak power. Two photovoltaic systems were installed and became operational in 2024 in Saudi Arabia and Algeria, reducing 2024 emissions by about 200 tons of CO2eq. In 2025 we will reach 3MW of solar energy installed on our sites to give power to our temporary installation in replacement of diesel generations.

We continuously work to minimize emissions from our construction site into the air, soil and water, by using the best technologies in compliance with the local laws in every country where we operate. We also develop technological solutions that contribute to reducing growing pollution trends.
We control and minimize pollution and develop solutions for degradable plastics
OUR INITIATIVES

Environmental Management Systems
The implementation and consolidation of these systems have enabled over time the minimization of environmental impacts in IE&CS projects and along the value chain. Continuous improvement initiatives are also underway to prevent potential impacts.

We recognize the importance of water management, and therefore we carry out a dedicated task force to focus on sustainable water management in our offices, in our sites and projects and technologies. In addition, we have launched the Water Task Force Award, which promotes projects initiatives aimed at reducing water consumption and increasing water recycling.
A dedicated Task Force to develop initiatives and technical solutions
Recognizing the Borouge 4 team for reusing ~56 million liters of water through an innovative Reverse Osmosis system.
OUR INITIATIVES

Hydrotest water recycling
We aim at reusing water intended for hydraulic testing in other activities and we are providing standard methodology.

Reverse osmosis plant
We installed a reverse osmosis system at the Borouge 4 project to desalinate seawater and to produce water for use in site activities, and we plan to extend such installations in other Middle East projects close to sea.

As MAIRE, we ensure that our actions do not create damage to the local environment. We define clear mitigation measures to minimize the impact on biodiversity, and we contribute by making positive actions.
Mapping, monitoring and developing initiatives to protect the habitats surrounding our sites
OUR INITIATIVES

Houbara Bird Protection
Appropriate mitigation measures have been adopted, including a protection plan for native birds. This plan provides for several initiatives, such as seasonal restrictions from February to May in the Houbara protected area to preserve the breeding cycle and awareness sessions to workers in the Hail & Ghasha site.

Mangroves planting
Mangrove plantations provide a number of key ecosystem benefits, including natural capture of CO2, creation of wildlife refuges, provision of food and habitat to support fisheries, and protection from coastal erosion. The Group will plan mangrove seeding plantation projects in Middle East.

We are committed to improving efficiency in the use of raw materials, reducing waste generation, and encouraging the transition to a circular economy model, while driving circularity from the earliest stages of engineering through our Circularity by Design task force.
We separate and recycle our waste, and recycle every year around ~30 kt of plastics
Initiatives to improve recycling among subcontractors and developing technologies for clients
Study to measure the circularity positive impacts of MAIRE technologies and solutions
OUR INITIATIVES

Circularity Framework
We have developed a Framework encompassing the Group’s entire value chain, thanks to which it was possible to define possible initiatives to promote circularity for supply chain, clients and our perimeter.

Enabling Circularity
We carried out a research on four major strategic countries in 2024 for the company’s business (UAE, KSA, Qatar, and Algeria) to improve waste management and recycling in each of them.

Circularity by Design Task Force
We are planning a Task Force involving our IE&CS BU companies in order to develop design solutions aimed to improve the use of recycling materials in our projects.
