Milan, 2 October 2014 – Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. - through its main contractor Tecnimont S.p.A. - was awarded the “GOLD WINNER” prize in Mega - Sized Projects category of the IPMA International Project Excellence Award 2014for the Habshan 5 Project, gas treatment plan realized in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The IPMA International Project Excellence Award is annually bestowed upon the most successful project teams in the world, and diligently recognizes excellent project management methods practiced across international projects. The coveted award, which was granted on 30th September in Rotterdam, signifies the excellent Project Management Standards followed by Maire Tecnimont Group companies across global projects of all sizes and complexities. Habshan 5 project has undergone critical assessment process according to the IPMA Model for Project Excellence achieving the highest status in the Mega-Sized project category.
Habshan 5 gas treatment plant is one of the best examples of the Group’s excellent project execution skills. The mega plant has been implemented over a 4 km2 area about 150 Km west of Abu Dhabi and it encompasses the biggest Sulphur Recovery Units ever realized in the world.
The Project, executed by a Tecnimont-JGC (Japan-based engineering corporation) joint venture for the client GASCO (Abu Dhabi Gas Industries), was completed successfully and on time in 52 months meeting the highest Safety and Quality standard. This mega-plant has seen more than thirty thousand people at work, representing 35 different nationalities. Moreover, the project achieved a worldwide milestone of accumulating 100 million safe man hours without a Lost Time Incident, an unprecedented record in plant engineering for the hydrocarbons industry.
