The advancement of the whole EFRA Project, which entails the realization of several units in the refinery of Grupa LOTOS, the second oil company in Poland, has reached 60%, far exceeding the assumptions. The heavy lifting operations were in fact just finalized, setting the largest and heaviest reactor and columns on very high foundations.
KT-Kinetics Technology is currently carrying out four refining units, namely a Delayed Coking Unit (DCU), a Hydrogen Production Unit, a Naphta Hydrothreater Unit and a Hydrowax Vacuum Distillation Unit to be carried out on a turn-key basis. The overall value of the project is approximately €350 million, with its completion scheduled for March 2018.
KT has established partnerships with strategic Polish suppliers of engineering services, equipment and materials, as well as with local subcontractors, in order to ensure the best optimization for project execution.
The DCU is the last link of the refining chain and processes the so called "Bottom of the Barrel”, since its final products are light distillates and petroleum coke (Pet Coke). This unit represents the core of the project both on an economic and technical standpoint. KT’s works will enable the refinery to improve output efficiency as well as mitigate environmental impacts. On this regard KT has adopted, for the Coke Handling System that is the last section of the DCU Unit, a State of the Art technology. Pet Coke is handled on a close circuit for dewatering that allows the containment of coke fines in the atmosphere.
With more than 40 years track record, KT can boast a strong experience in plant engineering. KT’s team is composed by both senior experienced and young, motivated professionals. This team is integrated with Polish engineers who provide a strategic and essential contribution. It is envisaged that construction hours to complete the project will be equal to approximately 2,600,000, almost totally delivered by Polish companies and workers, while – to date – 45% of the overall project progress has been carried out by Polish companies, giving strong evidence of the outstanding capabilities and expertise of the domestic Oil & Gas industry. These synergies – leveraged by KT and several Polish players – represent the key factor for the successful completion of the project, as well as for unlocking value in the Oil & gas Polish supply chain on the long run.
Pierroberto Folgiero, KT-Kinetics Technology and Maire Tecnimont Group CEO, added: “We are glad to support Grupa Lotos in improving the efficiency, the output quality and the environmental footprint of the Gdansk refinery. This project represents for us an outstanding refining reference in terms of technological content and synergies leveraged between Italian and Polish capabilities. We look forward to consolidate these strategic partnerships and strengthen our track record in a very promising downstream market such as Poland’s.”
