Bratislava, 6 September 2013 - The cornerstone of a new LDPE manufacturing unit was today laid in Vlčiehrdlo (Bratislava, Slovak Republic) by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Economy Minister Tomáš Malatinský, MOL Chairman and CEO ZsoltHernádi, Oszkár Világi, SLOVNAFT Chairman of the Board of Directors, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Maire Tecnimont Group and representatives of TALKE company.

The project has been awarded to Tecnimont, in consortium with Tecnimont Planung und Industrieanlagenbau both subsidiaries of Maire Tecnimont Group, by the Client Slovnaft Petrochemicals s.r.o., member of the MOL Group, one of the largest players in the European Oil & Gas market.  

The project is part of the Slovnaft Petrochemicals’ development plan in Bratislava. The new LDPE4 unit will replace seven older lines and will produce low density polyethylene. This is the basis for a wide range of products, such as food and agricultural plastic wrapping, toys, health supplies, insulation and other materials used in construction. Once the new line starts operating, annual polyethylene production capacity will reach 220,000 tonnes.

The realization of the LDPE4 unit will have a positive impact on the employment of the region. It is foreseen that at peak construction activities will employ approximately 1000 workers.
