- Collaboration agreement signed for some areas of research and development, with particular reference to innovative materials for high-tech industrial applications
- Maire Tecnimont will provide La Sapienza with the historic headquarters in Rome, which will become first, a center of excellence for applied research and, in the future, an incubator of innovative start-ups
Rome, 9 December 2015 - Today in Rome, in the presence of Eugenio Gaudio, Rector of Sapienza University of Rome, Fabrizio Di Amato, Chairman of the Maire Tecnimont Group, and Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer of the Group, the official ceremony was held for the signing of a strategic collaboration agreement between Maire Tecnimont and Sapienza University of Rome in the field of applied high-tech research.
Under the agreement, Maire Tecnimont and Sapienza University of Rome will collaborate for the development of research and training activities. In particular, some priority areas have been identified in which to activate advanced projects, including: the production of bio-polymers, the re-use of carbon dioxide as the basic raw material for the production of chemicals (polymers, fine chemicals, etc.) and the study of new materials for industrial applications.
The research activities may concern the core business of the group, as well as the broader energy and green chemistry sector, along with other innovative projects in other advanced areas of application. The immediately operational project, funded by the Group as part of the agreement, concerns the production sector of biopolymers from agricultural waste and/or algae. This project is part of a multi-year research program in which the Group intends to play both a financial and technical supporting role, particularly in the engineering of production processes.
The activities will be developed at the historic headquarters of Maire Tecnimont in Rome, via di Vannina (Tiburtina area), which will be transformed into an applied research center of the Group, providing the University with offices, scientific equipment and laboratories for experiments on pilot plants. The center aims to become a centre of attraction for high-tech companies engaged in various sectors, start-ups, university spin-offs, etc. which may benefit from an already structured context and a series of common services (conference room, reception, press center, etc.). The concentration of innovative content activities will favour the exchange of know-how and “network” collaboration between several entities in an interdisciplinary perspective.
The agreement with Sapienza also provides for the activation of advanced training projects aimed at professionals and technicians of foreign countries where the Group operates, with particular regard to the staff of “national oil companies” and sector operators - also thanks to e-learning modules.
“We are very pleased to have signed this important agreement with a university as prestigious as Sapienza” declared Fabrizio Di Amato,Chairman of Maire Tecnimont “This partnership is the sign of our Group's propensity to innovation, which is also achieved through strategic collaborations with the academic world, with a view to give rise to innovative start-ups from research projects developed”.
“The signing of this important collaboration agreement – declared Eugenio Gaudio,Rector of Sapienza University of Rome – is the confirmation for our University of continuous action of promotion and encouragement of synergy between education and research. We want Sapienza to be seen and experienced as a driving centre for the development and innovation policies of the territory and the production world. An objective that gives us strong responsibilities also regarding the model to pursue. The discussions that are developing these days in Paris with the Cop 21 impose, in fact, an active contribution on the part of all stakeholders for the containment of global warming. Sapienza, also in line with the objectives for sustainable development approved by the General Meeting in New York a few weeks ago, aims to strengthen research in the energy and green chemistry sector at the center of the collaboration with Maire Tecnimont”.
